Here, amidst the comfort of the past, I find the focus to read deeply, write with clarity, and prepare for what lies ahead. It is the grounding point where the wisdom of yesterday meets the potential of tomorrow.

Compassion in Crisis: Trauma Nursing Essentials Workshop

It was a highly impactful day at Malabar Medical College (MMC) with the successful execution of the

“Compassion in Crisis” Trauma Emergency Workshop. Designed around the Golden Hour concept, the hands-on program bridged theory with real-world trauma care for 44 healthcare professionals from across Kerala and Coimbatore.

The workshop focused on 10 critical life-saving competencies, including initial trauma assessment, hemorrhage control, airway management, IV/IO access, chest procedures, pelvic stabilization, splinting, and effective SBAR communication for patient handovers.

Simulation-based training at the MMC Simulation Lab played a key role, allowing participants to practice high-stakes skills in a realistic setting. The enthusiasm and engagement reflected a strong need for practical trauma education.

The program was strengthened by an experienced faculty team led by Dr. Sudha Anil, along with Dr. Sajith Kumar, Dr. Firoz, Dr. Shafin, and dedicated nursing educators. The visionary support of MMC Chairman Mr. Anil Kumar and Principal Dr. P.V. Narayanan, along with seamless coordination by the Nursing College team, ensured smooth execution.

With structured pre- and post-tests and 360-degree feedback, the workshop delivered measurable learning outcomes. The 44 participants return to their institutions more confident, skilled, and prepared to lead during trauma emergencies.

ATLS Course Faculty Reflection

This reflection note summarizes my experience as a guest attendee/faculty member at the ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) Course held at the Aster Simulation Center in Kozhikode, conducted under the auspices of ATLS India.
Course Experience and Structure
It was a pleasure to attend this ATLS course, resuming my association as faculty, a role I have held since 2009. The course continues to be a well-conducted, well-structured, and focused educational experience. It consistently provides an excellent opportunity for interaction for both students and faculty.
The two-and-a-half-day format is highly effective, ensuring that students receive ample opportunity to learn the essential principles of managing a polytrauma case, even in limited resource settings.
Faculty and Leadership
The course was expertly directed by Dr. Radesh Numbair in Kozhikode. He was supported by a highly capable team of faculty members, including Drs. Jinesh, Johnson, Nirmal Peter, and Kirishbakumar. Their combined expertise ensured a high-quality learning environment.
Nostalgia and Center Legacy
Attending this course was a deeply nostalgic experience. The Aster Simulation Center in Kozhikode is a facility that I had the privilege of establishing, and it stands as my last project with Aster before my departure. Seeing the center actively hosting such a critical course was immensely gratifying.
Delegate Participation
The course delegates were outstanding. Their participation, interactions, and performance were excellent, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning the vital skills necessary for trauma care.
This ATLS course at the Aster Simulation Center successfully upheld the high standards of the program, reflecting strong leadership and dedicated faculty, all while training a highly motivated cohort of future trauma care providers.

I am thrilled and deeply humbled to announce that I have been conferred with the prestigious Presidential Appreciation Award from the Indian College of Emergency Medicine (ICEM).
This esteemed recognition was formally presented by the Founder President of ICEM, Dr. Narendra Nath Jena, during the internationally renowned World Resuscitation Congress in Madurai on December 6, 2025.
The Indian College of Emergency Medicine is a cornerstone institution dedicated to advancing emergency medical care and resuscitation science across the nation. To receive an appreciation from such a distinguished body and its founder is a profound professional honor.
I extend my sincere gratitude to Dr. Narendra Nath Jena and the entire leadership of ICEM. This award motivates me to continue striving for excellence and contributing to the advancement of Emergency Medicine.

🌟A Reflecting on the AHA Meet 2025 🌟

I recently attended the AHA 2025 Guidelines Rollout at the Park Inn Hotel (Dec 2-3), and I must say, it was an exemplary blend of academic rigor and genuine camaraderie.
The scientific sessions were rich in content, sparking thought-provoking discussions and activities that gave me plenty of new ideas to take home. However, what made this meeting truly special were the moments in between.
From the pre-meet faculty discussions in Srimon’s room to the eclectic music night that took us from Rafi Sahib’s classics to high-energy beats, the bonding was incredible. The hospitality reached its peak with a homely gathering at Sachin’s residence, where meeting his father was a cherished moment.
I want to extend a sincere thank you to the organizers who made this flawless: Marida, Sachin, Biswas, Srimon, Anoop, and our very own “shy” movie producer. Even the smallest details, like the AHA pin, diary, and carry bag, were curated with care.
Leaving Trichur with a bag full of new thoughts and memories that are carved in my heart forever.

IMACON 2025, the Kerala State IMA Conference, held at the Malabar Marina Convention Centre, Calicut, on November 8th and 9th, 2025, was a truly memorable and well-organized event.
With more than 3,500 delegates from across Kerala, the conference radiated excellence in every aspect — from its elegant venue and flawless audiovisual arrangements to the spectacular food, smooth transport facilities, and a breathtaking banquet on the banks of the serene Chaliyar River.

🌟Reflections on EMCon 2025 – A Landmark in Emergency Medicine🌟

EMCon 2025 truly stands as one of the biggest and most inspiring Emergency Medicine conclaves in India. The scientific sessions were exceptional — packed with rigorous, relevant, and forward-looking topics that added immense value to everyday clinical practice.

The venue was beautifully arranged, the hospitality meticulous, and the participation overwhelming — a true ocean of emergency physicians, faculty, and delegates from across the globe. The conference embodied both scale and substance.

It was particularly encouraging to see the incredible opportunities provided for young professionals — from oral and poster presentations to simulation and photography competitions, as well as dedicated sessions for young faculty. This spirit of inclusion and mentorship is what makes EMCon special.

I was privileged to speak in the main hall on “Rural Emergency Medicine”, a subject very close to my heart in this second innings of my career. It was fulfilling to share the challenges and practical solutions from our work in peripheral emergency centers.

A special mention to the organizers — Dr. Sanjay, Dr. Ankur Varma, Dr. srinath Kumar, and the entire EMCon 2025 team — for curating a green, innovative, and impactful event. The focus on sustainability, including electric vehicle transport and plastic-free initiatives, deserves high appreciation.

Every element — from scientific design to the banquet and faculty dinner — was simply outstanding.
Congratulations to the entire EMCon 2025 team for an exemplary conference that set new benchmarks for Emergency Medicine in India.

Honoured to be Part of a Life-Saving Legacy

Since 2005, my journey with the American Heart Association—as an ACLS instructor, coordinator, and regional faculty—has been incredibly fulfilling.

In 2019, I was proud to help train 28,564 school children in hands-only CPR in 8 hours, setting a Guinness World Record. I also helped establish the first ASLS training centre in Calicut.

More recently, I played a role in helping Aster MIMS become India’s first AHA-accredited hospital for stroke and STEMI care.

I’m deeply honoured to receive a special appreciation from AHA leadership—dedicated to my incredible team and every lifesaver making a difference.
